UEFA admits refereeing error in awarding Germany a penalty in their match against Spain. Leading to Germany’s quarter-final exit at home at Euro 2024 football.

Back in the European Championship, or Euro 2024, this past summer. Spain was able to win the championship by defeating England in the final. While in the quarter-finals, they beat hosts Germany in extra time สมัคร ufabet

However, before the team conceded a goal to Miguel Merino in extra time. Germany should have been awarded a penalty when Jamal Musiala’s shot hit Marc Cucurella’s arm.

The referee, led by England’s Anthony Taylor, refused to award a penalty, as did the VAR team. Which was joined by fellow English referee Stuart Attwell.

UEFA’s referees’ committee has now ruled out the incident. As a refereeing error and admitted Germany should have been awarded a penalty at 1-1. Which could have given the hosts a win and sent them to the semi-finals against France instead of Spain.

UEFA said: “Under UEFA rules, incidents where the ball hits the arm and prevents a shot on target should be punished more severely. When such incidents occur, the defender’s arm would most likely be a free kick if the defender’s arm was not close to his body.”

“In Cucurella’s case, the defender stopped the shot with his arm. Which was not close to his body. He made himself bigger. So the referee should have given Germany a penalty.”
